Market Segmentation

A man gotta do, what a man gotta do. That’s why we must take a closer look in some technical stuff, big words and boring jargon. First term we will break down is market segmentation which means sorting your clientele into groups with same characteristics. Market segmentation can be made following different criteria so again there are some terms you should get to know better:

    • Geography – sorting by the place where customers live
      Demographics – sorting by criteria such as age, sex, financial status, education, etc.
      Psychographics – sorting by lifestyle, behavior, values, interests, etc.
      Geodemographics – powerful combo of geographical and demographic data shows you where certain customer profiles reside.

    Geodemographics also called cluster marketing or lifestyle marketing is used to make area profiles so that your marketing efforts in non-specific area are adapted to certain customer profile which reside there. Perfect example would be an upper middle class neighborhood or a small farming county. This is based on the fact that people of the similar profile as some group of your customers are likely to become your customers too.
