Accelerated Tariff Elimination

An increased rate of reduction of tariff duties that is happening at a faster rate than it was agreed upon in a treaty or trade agreement. Reduction and removal of tariff duties is an integral part of any bi-, tri- and multilateral trade agreement or treaty and is often viewed as a necessary towards a free trade society. While the rate of tariff elimination or reduction is always generally agreed upon in treaties, some countries choose, by their own free will and acting on interest, to hasten the process and alleviate tariffs and other similar devices faster than it was previously agreed.

There is a number of reasons on why a country would act this way. While political and economic pressure are not insignificant factors in the decision-making process, countries pursue this course of action mainly because the potential benefits out-weigh the possible risks and losses by a large enough margin.
